February 24, 2020

On February 24, 2020 at 3:30 PM, the MIT Police responded to Epsilon Theta, an independent living group located at 259 St. Paul Street in Brookline on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between 12:00 PM on Friday February 21, 2020 and 2:00 PM on Monday February 22, 2020, someone entered two bedrooms and removed currency and personal property. There were no signs of forced entry. 

February 2, 2020

On February 2, 2020 at approximately 12:20 PM, a report was made to the MIT Police concerning a burglary in Building 34. The theft occurred sometime between 2:30 and 3:00 AM on Sunday February 2, 2020. The reporting party stated that an Apple MacBook computer was missing. The room had been locked at the time of the theft and there were no signs of forced entry.

January 13, 2020

On January 13, 2020 at 11:20 a.m., the MIT Police responded to the Epsilon Theta Fraternity located at 259 St. Paul Street in Brookline on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that sometime between January 9, 2020 and January 10, 2020, someone forced open a rear basement exterior door. Once inside, the suspect(s) forced open two bedroom doors and removed U.S. currency and valuables. 

 

December 2, 2019






 

Incident 1
On December 2, 2019 at approximately 6:45 AM, a report was made to the MIT Police concerning a burglary in Building 14. The theft occurred sometime between 7:00 AM on Thursday, November 28 and 11:00 PM on Sunday, December 1. The reporting party stated that a Bluetooth speaker was missing and there was evidence of property damage. The room had been locked over the weekend and there were no signs of forced entry.

There is no suspect description at this time.

Incident 2
On December 2, 2019 at approximately 7:45 AM, a report was made to the MIT Police concerning a burglary from a room on the second floor of Building 24. The victim stated she locked the area upon departing on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 5:00 PM. When the individual returned to the area on December 2, 2019 at approximately 7:30 AM, a number of items were missing and the area was unlocked. The missing items include 3 laptop computers, some keys to adjoining rooms, an access badge, and a pair of black boots. The badge has been deactivated.

Incident 3
On December 2, 2019 at approximately 10:45 AM, a report was made concerning a burglary on the fourth floor of Building 13. The reporting party stated he left his Apple MacBook laptop on his desk in his locked office when he departed on Thursday, November 28, at approximately 3:30 PM. When he returned to the area at approximately 9:00 AM on December 2, the laptop was missing. There were no signs of forced entry.

November 24, 2019

On November 24, 2019 at 4:00 p.m., the MIT Police responded to the Sigma Nu Fraternity located at 99 Bay State Road on a report of two recent burglaries. The reporting party stated that sometime between November 17, 2019 and November 21, 2019, someone stole two laptop computers from two separate bedrooms located on the fourth and sixth floors. There were no signs of forced entry. 

October 27, 2019

On October 27, 2019, at 4:43 a.m., the MIT Police responded to the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house, located at 119 Bay State Road, on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that he encountered an unknown individual in his third floor bedroom. The suspect fled down the staircase and exited through the front door. The suspect was last seen fleeing Eastbound on Bay State Rd. There were no signs of forced entry, but an open third floor window was accessible by climbing the fire escape. 

October 16, 2019

Please be advised that detailed information below pertains to a report of a sexual assault that occurred on the MIT campus.
***The notification was made to the MIT Police through a third party in compliance with the Federal Clery Act.  Notifications made to the MIT Police in this manner often do not contain names, suspect descriptions, and may not have specific dates and times.***

According to a report received by the MIT Police on October 15, 2019, a sexual assault occurred near Amherst Alley on Saturday night between the hours of 11:00 PM (10/12/19) and 12:50 AM (10/13/2019). The report states that an unidentified perpetrator left a party at 407 Memorial Drive with the Victim/Survivor and sexually assaulted her near the area of the MIT Tennis Courts at 410 Memorial drive. No suspect description was provided.

September 18, 2019

On September 17, 2019, MIT Police responded to a past burglary at the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity house, which is located at 530 Beacon St. in Boston. Residents reported that a bicycle was stolen from the basement bike storage area sometime between September 16, 2019 at 4:00PM and September 17, 2019 at 07:45AM. There were no signs of forced entry to the doorway of this location. The door may have been unsecured during the time of the burglary. The incident was reported to the MIT Police this evening. 

September 3, 2019

On September 1, 2019 at 8:50 p.m., the MIT Police responded to the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house, located at 119 Bay State Road on a report of a burglary. The reporting party stated that he encountered an unknown individual in the third floor window of his bed room. The suspect had removed the air conditioning unit from the window and after placing it on the fire escape, he attempted to enter the room. The suspect fled down the fire escape in an unknown direction.

August 29, 2019

On August 27, 2019, sometime between 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM, five individuals were observed riding on three motorized scooters travelling Eastbound on Vassar Street. Two of the individuals then pulled over and stole a white Chicago motor scooter, which had been parked on the sidewalk. The five individuals were last seen travelling on four scooters in the direction of Main Street and Galileo Way.

June 18, 2019

On June 18, 2019, the MIT Police received a walk-in report of a burglary from a bedroom at 97 Bay State Road. (Phi Theta Fraternity). The reporting party stated that sometime between 10:00 AM and midnight on Saturday, June 15, someone entered his room and stole his passport, Social Security card and other documentation. 

April 18, 2019

On April 18, 2019, the MIT Police were notified of two burglaries at an MIT residential hall located at 70 Amherst Street, Cambridge, MA.

Incident #1 Reporting party stated that sometime between Thursday, April 11, 2019 and Tuesday, April 16, 2019, someone entered their dormitory room and removed two laptop computers and $200 cash. The door was unlocked during the time period when the theft appears to have occurred.

Incident #2 Reporting party stated that on Saturday, April 13, 2019 between the hours of 10 p.m. and midnight, they awoke to find an unknown person in their dormitory room. When the suspect realized the room was occupied, they quickly exited the room. The room was unlocked at the time of this incident.

It should be noted that both of the rooms involved in this timely warning are located on an upper floor and next to each other.

March 25, 2019

A work area on the 2nd floor of building 31, located at 70 Rear Vassar Street, Cambridge was burglarized sometime between 6 p.m. on March 22, 2019 and 10 a.m. on March 24, 2019.  Someone entered the area and removed two pairs of Bose headphones. The area is card access only during non-business hours.

March 20, 2019

On March, 19, 2019 at 4:25 p.m., the MIT Police responded to the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house, located at 119 Bay State Road on a report of a suspicious person. The reporting party stated that he encountered an unknown individual in the basement of the fraternity house and that the individual did not belong in the building. When confronted, the suspect fled the area and the reporting party followed the suspect to the first floor where he fled the building through the front door.

February 23, 2019

On February, 22, 2019 at 11:55 p.m., the MIT Police responded to the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity located at 351 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge on a report of a burglary at that location. The reporting party advised Officers that he observed an individual standing on the first floor ledge of the building reaching in through an open window. When confronted by the reporting party, the suspect stated that he was attempting to retrieve his bag from that room. The suspect then fled on foot on Massachusetts Avenue in the direction of Central Square.

February 8, 2019

On February, 8, 2019 at 7:26 p.m., the MIT Police responded to Fenway House, located at 34 the Fenway, Boston, on a report of a burglary at that location. Arriving Officers observed the front door had been forced open. An interior search of the house was conducted and one suspect was located and taken into custody. The suspect informed Officers' that he had broken into the house with a second suspect and did not know if the second suspect was still somewhere inside the house. A secondary search of every room was conducted and the second suspect was unable to be located.

January 22, 2019

On January 22, 2019, it was reported to the MIT Police that lab spaces on an upper floor of building E14, located at 75 Amherst Street in Cambridge, were burglarized sometime between 10 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019, and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

The reporting party stated that someone entered the lab spaces on the third floor and removed valuable electronic equipment. The reporting party stated that an unknown individual was seen wandering around in two different areas after being told to leave the building. There were no signs of forced entry to any of the areas involved. The individual that was seen wandering the building is described as male, 17-21 years of age, facial hair and a thin mustache, wearing a beanie style cap with the "thrasher" logo on it and a dark gray winter coat.

January 8, 2019

On the evening of January 7, 2019, the MIT Police were notified of a past burglary at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, which is located at 416 Beacon Street in Boston. The reporting party informed MIT Police that a bicycle was stolen from an unattached garage in the rear of the residence between the hours of 9:00PM on 1/5/2019 and 6:00PM on 1/6/2019.

November 24, 2018

An office on the 3rd floor of N52, located at 265 Massachusetts Avenue was burglarized sometime between 4p.m. on November 21, 2018 and 4p.m. on November 24, 2018.

November 21, 2018

A motor scooter was stolen from the rear patio of Phi Kappa Sigma, located at 530 Beacon Street, Boston sometime between November 19, 2018 at 6:00AM and November 20, 2018 at 4:55PM.

The area on and around campus has experienced an increase in two-wheeled motor vehicle theft in the last few months.
