It is with tremendous sadness that the MIT Police Department announces the sudden passing of Sergeant Brian J. Sousa. Sergeant Sousa served our community for 23 years and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2011. Before being promoted, Sergeant Sousa served in various roles in the patrol division and was an integral part of the MIT Police Honor Guard Unit. Brian, you will be remembered for your friendship, leadership, your generous spirit and incredible smile.

Be Safe While Out
If alcohol is served while you are enjoying a night out, safeguard your drink(s):

 • Never leave your drink unattended
 • Avoid sharing drinks with others
 • Do not accept drinks from strangers
 • If someone you do not know offers you a drink and you accept, go to the bar with them and have the drink poured and served directly to you
 • If you did not see your drink poured, do not drink it
 • Keep an eye on your friends and their drinks
 • If you believe your drink may be spiked or observe an individual spiking someone else’s drink, immediately call 911.

This year the MIT Police will be hosting a Holiday Community Food Drive! Donation bins will be set up in our police station from 11/22/2021 thru 12/15/2021. Any canned food or non-perishable food items that you can donate will be greatly appreciated!

Public Service Announcement: We have received complaints of people riding bicycles, skate boards and other wheeled devices inside the corridors of the main group.

Please remember: In Institute buildings or parking structures, it is prohibited to operate bicycles, in-line skates, skateboards, or any other form of wheeled personal transportation except for medical devices such as wheelchairs and scooters. A fine will be imposed.

The use of these items pose a safety concern and could lead to a potential hazardous situation.

The MIT Police Department is happy to announce that our new substation, located in the main lobby of E25, is now open!
This substation will act as an additional hub for the MIT Police on the eastside of campus. The substation will be open seven days a week from 7:15am to 11:00pm. Please stop in and say hello!
